As you will see in the “About” tab, I have worked in the area of addictions for 15 years since commencing practice in 1986. It is common with addictions that there are underlying issues of trauma, physical and/or sexual abuse, emotional abandonment and issues from childhood. These themes form a major part of the therapeutic work, as well as resolving the symptomatic addictive behaviours.
I also have 6 years experience in the rehabilitation field, focusing particularly on acquired brain injury. The broader underlying themes in this area include: grief and loss; mortality; family and relationship impacts of trauma; adjustment to chronic disability and illness. What do we do when our frameworks for living are suddenly shattered?
My work over the last 16 years with a large caseload of police and emergency service workers with post traumatic stress has deepened my knowledge of the trauma field and the neurology of trauma.
These specialist areas have provided me with a solid foundation to work with a broad range of issues where there are themes of anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, loss, life transition and relationship issues.
